Bluenose BoSox Brotherhood
This website is the online home of The Bluenose BoSox Brotherhood.
The Bluenose BoSox Brotherhood is proof positive that Red Sox Nation has no borders. The BBB is a diehard group of Sox fans from Nova Scotia. The Bluenose BoSox Brotherhood has grown to approximately 270 members from across the province. The club has become so popular that plans are underway to create BBB chapters in various parts of NS.
Bill ‘Spaceman’ Lee is the BBB’s ‘Emperor for Life,’ Johnny Pesky is the ‘Patron Saint,’ and Dick Gernert is ‘Ambassador-at-Large.’
The latest coups by the BBB include working with the Red Sox on Nova Scotia Night at Fenway Park in 2011 and convincing the Red Sox to bring the 2007 World Series trophy to Halifax in January of 2008. The connections between Boston and Halifax are many and varied. In 1917, when the Halifax Explosion devastated the city and left thousands dead and wounded, it was Boston that came to its aid most quickly and effectively. Nova Scotians have never forgotten that act of compassion and every year a Christmas tree arrives in the Massachusetts capital as a token of gratitude. There are numerous historical, cultural, business, and family ties between Nova Scotia and Massachusetts. One of the most enduring is a mutual love of the Red Sox. Prior to the existence of the Montreal Expos in 1969 and the Toronto Blue jays in 1977, the Red Sox were the ‘home team’ for most Nova Scotia baseball fans. Countless fans of an earlier generation huddled around their radios to pick up scratchy broadcasts of Sox games. Today many people make the annual trip to Fenway Park to see their favorites in action. Countless others have invested in satellite dishes so that they don’t miss a game.
The BBB meets on a semi-regular basis to discuss all things Red Sox. There are plans to make road trips to Boston as well as Pawtucket, Lowell, and Portland, Maine. Funds made from auctions and other activities are donated to children’s charities such as the Jimmy Fund, IWK Children’s Hospital, and minor league baseball.
